Brian was born and raised in Grande Prairie. He attended the Grande Prairie Regional College and graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and History in 1979. Brian attended the University of Calgary from 1979-1982 for his Bachelor of Law Degree. Brian articled to the Crown Prosecutor's Office in Edmonton from 1982-1983.

He has practiced as a partner with this and successor firms since, covering most areas of law at various times. Currently, Brian's areas of concentration are motor vehicle accident and injury claims, real estate and corporate/commercial.
